The Choirs of Illinois College Choral Concert Thursday, May 18 at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary.

The choirs of Illinois College (Jacksonville, IL) will present a unique performance event on April 1 titled “Earth, Wind, and Fire: Songs to Inspire Awe, Appreciation, and Action.” The concert, presented by over 60 singers from the Illinois College Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, and Chamber Singers is part of their week-long tour which will take them through Memphis, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and St. Louis. The 60 minute concert will include songs about the three elements of earth, wind, and fire. The choirs will perform a variety of musical styles and eras, including “Earth Song” by Frank Tichelli, an early American shape-note tune entitled “The Spirit Like A Mighty Wind,” and the African American spiritual “God’s Gonna Set This World on Fire.” Also featured in the concert are a madrigal by Thomas Morley, a choral arrangement of a Pete Seeger song, a Japanese piece dedicated to the victims of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, and even a Nordic “yoik” piece from the Disney hit movie Frozen. The choirs will also perform several songs by the 70s and 80s band Earth, Wind, and Fire. “This mix of music, poetry, and science is the perfect combination. There’s something for everyone at this concert,” said Director of Choral Activities at IC and conductor of all three choirs, Dr. Abby Musgrove. “From pop tunes to hymns, from medieval chants to gospel grooves to beautiful classical melodies – everyone will find something they’ll like.” The concert will be held at Woodland Church on Thursday, May 18 at 7:00pm and is free and open to the public.

Saturday, May 20 at 8:30 am – Potluck Prayer Breakfast in the fellowship hall. Bring your favorite breakfast item to share and join us for a morning of prayer and fellowship.
